Chris Cornell died Wednesday night at the age of 52.
The lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave had just finished a show in Detroit. His rep called the death “sudden and unexpected.”
According to the Associated Press, Detroit Police are investigating the death as a possible suicide. "Cornell was found dead on the bathroom floor of his hotel room at the MGM Grand Detroit by a family friend. Cornell's wife Vicky had called the friend and asked him to check on Cornell."
His family asked for privacy as they work with medical examiners.
Fans and friends are waking up to the news and sharing their thoughts on Twitter. Elton John tweeted, "Shocked and saddened by the sudden death of @chriscornell. A great singer, songwriter and the loveliest man." Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry added, "Very sad news about Chris Cornell today. A sad loss of a great talent to the world, his friends and family. Rest In Peace. Carson Daly called Cornell "A quintessential voice of a generation. Praying for his family."
