LeBron James has opted out of his contract with the Miami Heat. I don’t care one bit about the NBA, but am braced for these annoying side effects:
*The Decision, Part 2. Jim Gray must return as host. He’s the ultimate evil shill.
*James’ free agency will be all that’s talked about on ESPN. A typical hour-long SportsCenter will cover the Yankees, Red Sox and WHERE WILL LEBRON GO? Skip Bayless’ head might explode.
Never before has player power been on such prominent display.
The Heat appeared in each of the last four NBA finals, winning twice. James decided to blow up the team.
Dwyane Wade is washed up. The Heat would love to have him opt out. No such luck. Wade will collect his $20m next season. It’s every man for himself.
No sympathy for the Heat. They are reaping what they sowed.
Some say James should go back to Cleveland. No way. With James, it’s not just about money. It’s about notoriety, and making a splash. There’s no notoriety to be found in Cleveland. Lake Erie is too toxic to splash around in.
James loves this. He’s a great basketball player, but he’s also an attention whore that would make Michael Jordan blush.
Some think James might re-sign with Miami for less money, allowing cash saved to be spent on making the Heat better. Believe that when you see it.
