Dave Grohl Makes a Surprise Visit to His Old High School

Imagine waking up, dragging yourself to school, and you see a film crew outside. Now, imagine if Dave Grohl was at the center of that group. Most teenagers would have to pinch themselves to make sure they weren't dreaming, and that's exactly what happened at Annandale High School earlier this week.

The Foo Fighters frontman visited his Alma Mater on Tuesday (December 11) in Annandale, Virginia, as part of a documentary he's filming. And the current principal, Tim Thomas, did what anyone would do: get excited and ask for a photo opp. He posted the picture on Twitter.

"Went outside to investigate a film crew on campus only to discover that it was Dave Grohl from ⁦@foofighters⁩ who went to AHS and whose mother was an English teacher at AHS," he captioned the snapshot. "What a treat! Go Atoms!!"

The rockstar's mom, Virginia Hanlon Grohl, recently confirmed the film project during an appearance at BIGSOUND Festival and Conference in September.

“We are doing that,” she said matter-of-factly. “Coming soon.”

The documentary is slated to follow Grohl's illustrious career, from Scream to Nirvana to Foo Fighters. The soundtrack for a Washington DC punk documentary called Salad Days was recently released and features a song that pre-dates Grohl's time in Scream. Listen to it here.
