Michelle Williams And Phil Elverum Split Less Than A Year Into Marriage

Less than a year after getting married, Michelle Williams and Phil Elverum have split. As People reports, the couple separated at the beginning of 2019. It was an amicable spilt and they remain friends,” a source close to them told the publication.

The actress opened up about her relationship with the musician (Mount Eerie, The Microphones) for the first time during an interview with Vanity Fair last summer, detailing their secret wedding in the Adirondacks.

"Obviously I've never once talked about a relationship, but Phil isn't anyone else. And that's worth something. Ultimately, the way he loves me is the way I want to live my life on the whole. I work to be free inside of the moment. I parent to let Matilda be free to herself, and I am finally loved by someone who makes me feel free."

Matilda is the 12-year-old daughter Williams shared with the late Heath Ledger. Elverum's story is similar, as he, too, was forced to raise a child alone after the loss of a spouse. His wife, musician Geneviève Castrée, passed away in 2016 after being diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer, leaving him to raise their 18-month-old daughter as a single parent.
