5 GOALS, 5 WAYS: VOTE FOR MARIO

On Dec. 31, 1988, Mario Lemieux scored five goals, five ways: Even strength, shorthanded, power play, penalty shot, empty net.

That’s every way possible. It had never been done before, hasn’t been done since and very probably won’t be done again. So unthinkable, that nobody realized exactly what had happened until the next day.

Lemieux’s accomplishment is a finalist in the NHL’s Greatest Moments on-line voting competition. It’s up against Bobby Orr’s Stanley Cup-winning OT goal for Boston in 1970.
