FEB. 2, 1989: THE SPECTRUM CURSE ENDS

This video’s presentation is a bit corny. Jesus Jones? Come on.

But Feb. 2, 1989, was a magic day in Penguins history. The Penguins won at Philadelphia, 5-3, ending a 0-39-3 streak at Philadelphia’s Spectrum.

This clip is chock-full of interesting minutiae. Penguins announcers Phil Bourque and Bob Errey each get a goal. Between-periods TV analyst Jay Caufield drops the gloves. Ex-Penguin Mike Bullard tallies for the Flyers. Future Penguin Rick Tocchet makes a cameo. ‘DVE legends Scott Paulsen and Jim Krenn perform a skit that would offend lots of people today.

But the main attraction is a Penguins win at Philadelphia. More of the same tonight, please.
