(Just) before Led Zeppelin, there was the Jeff Beck Group: Jeff Beck (guitar), Rod Stewart (vocals), Ronnie Wood (bass), Micky Waller (drums). They did “You Shook Me,” just like Zeppelin. They were amazing.
It didn’t last, because very little involving Beck ever has. Perhaps the most unique, inventive guitarist ever, Beck is always moving on.
Showtime is playing a Beck documentary: “Still on the Run.” It’s as definitive as 90 minutes can be and includes interviews with all the key figures.
My favorite Beck is his output with Stewart, and his Yardbirds work. (Beck and Zeppelin's Jimmy Page were once in the Yardbirds simultaneously.)
Behold the documentary trailer; Beck with Stewart back then, and more recently; Yardbirds without and with Page. Amazing.
