Chili Pepper's Chad join Avett bros onstage

Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers joined The Avett Brothers for a special gig Sunday night in Southampton, New York.

The concert was part of guitarist's G.E. Smith’s Portraits series, where he interviews and performs with different acts. And since the members of the Avetts' touring lineup had the night off, Chad Smith was drafted to play drums on six songs. The pairing isn't that surprising, since Smith plays on two of the Avetts' albums produced by Rick Rubin -- 2012's The Carpenter and 2013's Magpie and the Dandelion.
