The “Saved by the Bell” reboot premieres Nov. 25 on Peacock streaming.
It will either be incredible or a total disaster.
I said that about “Cobra Kai” and it turned out to be the former, absolutely tremendous. If the trailer is any indication, “Saved by the Bell” mimics “Cobra Kai” in having the ability to be in on its own joke, a valuable commodity in this sort of enterprise.
Much of the original cast is involved to some degree – but not Dustin Diamond, who played Screech. Perhaps the sex tape, bankruptcy and arrest caused the producers to shy away.
No Dennis Haskins, either. The Mr. Belding-type principal is played by John Michael Higgins.
Zack is still married to Kelly. That’s comforting. They are the governor and first lady of California. That is not comforting.
Mario Lopez (A.C. Slater) is a gym teacher at Bayside High. (Of course he is.)
Elizabeth Berkley (Jessie Spano) is now a doctor, having lived down her past as a promiscuous, felonious showgirl in Las Vegas.
