Because we love ‘em all. Here’s your 90’s Video of the Day
Foo Fighters - Next Year
Since we featured Sunny Day Real Estate yesterday, here’s the band that Nate Mendel eventually called home for the long haul, Foo Fighters with “Next Year.” (And we’re right at the edge here with this album getting released in 1999, though the single got the most love in 2000).
The footage you see in the video is from the Apollo 11 mission along with stock footage from Nasa. Director Phil Harder, seamlessly mixes in era appropriate looking shots of the band performing in zero gravity, which no, they weren’t really. The band is only seen from the waist up, so that’s just plain old acting. In other sections of the video, there are band members and objects hanging from cables, which were later painted out, to give the appearance of floating. The entire thing was filmed inside a 1960’s replica of the capsule that went to the moon and has been used in other space voyage shows and movies.
This was certainly one of the lighter, even more Brit-Pop sounding Foo Fighters tracks and honestly it’s why it stands out to me so much.
It’s just a straight up, well done video so enjoy!
