Penguins Activate Zach Aston-Reese, Danton Heinen and Casey DeSmith from the NHL’s COVID-19 Protocol List

Jason Zucker and Louis Domingue Placed on Injured Reserve

The Pittsburgh Penguins have activated forwards Zach Aston-Reese and Danton Heinen, as well as goaltender Casey DeSmith from the NHL’s COVID-19 Protocol List, it was announced today.

Penguins forward Jason Zucker and goaltender Louis Domingue have been placed on injured reserve.

Aston-Reese, 27, has played in 32 games with Pittsburgh this season, recording one goal, seven assists and eight points. The 6-foot-0, 204-pound forward leads the Penguins and ranks eighth in the league with 121 hits this season. In 193 career NHL games, Aston-Reese has recorded 28 goals, 31 assists and 59 points, all with Pittsburgh.

Heinen, 26, has suited up for 34 games with Pittsburgh in 2021-22, tallying nine goals, seven assists and 16 points. His nine goals are tied for the fourth-most on the Penguins. In 306 career NHL games, the 6-foot-1, 188-pound forward has registered 53 goals, 84 assists and 137 points, split between Pittsburgh, Anaheim and Boston.

DeSmith, 30, has accumulated a 3-3-1 record with the Penguins this season in eight appearances, with an .888 save percentage, 3.47 goals-against average and one shutout. His shutout came on Dec. 11 vs. Anaheim, tying Johan Hedberg (7) for the sixth-most shutouts in franchise history. 

The Penguins return home to PPG Paints Arena tonight with a matchup against the Ottawa Senators at 7:00 PM.
