Mario Lemieux skated today at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex in Cranberry. It is undeniably bad-ass when you skate at a complex that’s named after you.
The question: Why?
True, Mario’s annual fantasy camp takes place Saturday-Wednesday. He could be preparing for that.
But, if that’s all, why is ex-Penguin Jay Caufield on the ice? When Mario made his comeback in 2000, Caufield was his fitness guru.
Is history repeating?
Don’t be shocked if Mario, at 51, joins the Penguins for the playoffs. He wouldn’t play a regular shift. That would be silly. Mario will man the left half-board on the power play, and be used when the opposition pulls the goalie.
Reports say that Mario is in the best shape of his life. Watch this space.
