Despite last night’s Game 3 overtime loss at Toronto, I still think Washington wins its first-round playoff series with the Maple Leafs.
With the Capitals trailing two games to one, Game 4 at Toronto tomorrow looms large. So does Washington’s pucker factor. It’s major. You can see it. You can feel it. You can almost hear it.
The Capitals aren’t speedy enough to skate toe-to-toe with a fast team like the Leafs over seven games. I’m not sure what their Plan B might be.
Prize trade-deadline acquisition Kevin Shattenkirk was minus-2 last night. Alex Ovechkin has two goals on the series, but does it feel like he’s doing enough? Braden Holtby’s goals-against average is 2.74. That’s almost seven-tenths of a goal worse than his regular-season number.
