Aliquippa High School football is being forced to play Class 5A football by the PIAA.
The Quips have 2A enrollment, won the 4A state championship this past season and are being pushed further up the ladder because of their success and because they’ve absorbed five transfers over the past two years. Three or more triggers elevation.
But those transfers weren’t for athletic intent. They didn’t bring in star players. They were typical of a transient, low-income community.

Aliquippa is taking the PIAA to court over the matter.
But they’ve apparently decided to fight fire with fire, too.
Four football players have reportedly transferred to Aliquippa High School and will play next season, including two Division I prospects who live in Aliquippa but had been going to private school. All four transfers are said to be quality athletes.
Aliquippa is going to beat the PIAA at its own game.
