FIELDS = "OUR LAMAR"?

Here's an excerpt from my latest TribLive.com column:

The Steelers brought Wilson to Pittsburgh to be QB1. It’s time to find out. They can always go back to Fields.

Fields’ level of play isn’t good enough to beat good teams or to win playoff games. It’s a passing league.

If the goal is to squeak by enough mediocre and bad teams to stumble into the playoffs, Fields might be able to do that.

"They can always go back to Fields." That's a key line. Who's the best quarterback between the two? Who can take you further? You need a good coach to navigate that.

A Steelers fan on Twitter referred to Fields as "Our Lamar." That's a reference to Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson, a two-time NFL MVP.

That's hilarious. Fields has the smallest fraction of Jackson's talent, never mind his resume. The approach might be similar. But Jackson is much better at everything.

Anyway, Steelers fans denigrate Jackson every chance they get. "LAMAR AIN'T THAT GOOD! WE BEAT HIM ALL THE TIME!" (Full disclosure: Jackson is 2-4 lifetime against the Steelers.)

Also humorous: "STEELERS NATION TOOK OVER ALLEGIANT STADIUM!"

Las Vegas is a vacation destination. Visiting fans are there in strong numbers every game.

Let me know when Steelers Nation takes over a dump like Jacksonville. Or if the Steelers ever play in Germany or Brazil.

At any rate, it's not like you crossed the Rhine on your way to Berlin. You went to a football game.
