Billboard recently unveiled their year-end Billboard 200 list, which tallies the best-selling albums of 2024, and the results were a little depressing for rock fans. Only 29 of the 200 albums were in the rock genre, and none of them were released this year. In fact, the best-selling rock album of 2024 came out 47 years ago. Fleetwood Mac's classic 1977 album Rumours landed at #34 and is the highest ranked rock album on the list. Elton John's 2017 greatest hits album Diamonds was right behind it at #35.
In fact, most of the rock albums to land on the chart were compilations. Aside from Rumours, the only others that weren't were Nirvana's Nevermind, AC/DC's Back in Black, Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory and Sublime's 1996 self-titled album.
