The Los Angeles Chargers have reportedly fired offensive coordinator Greg Roman, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday (January 13).

Roman's reported firing came two days after the Chargers were defeated by the New England Patriots, 16-3, in their AFC Wild Card Round game at Gillette Stadium on Sunday (January 11). The veteran assistant had previously worked under head coach Jim Harbaugh during his tenures at Stanford and with the San Francisco 49ers, as well as his brother, John Harbaugh, with the Baltimore Ravens from 2017 to 2022, before rejoining the elder Harbaugh in 2024.

"The #Chargers have fired OC Greg Roman, per The Insiders. A major change for coach Jim Harbaugh," Rapoport wrote on his X account. "For the #Chargers to win as many games as they did with the injuries, impressive. The Jim Harbaugh-Greg Roman tandem has proven to be among the most productive. For this to happen means Harbaugh realized major improvements were needed."

The Chargers ranked 12th among all 32 NFL teams in total offense with 333.8 yards per game and 20th in scoring offense with 21.6 points per game. Los Angeles haven't made it past the AFC Wild Card Round since their win against the Ravens in the 2018 playoffs, only to be eliminated by the eventual Super Bowl champion Patriots in the Divisional Round.
