THE MAPLE LEAFS SUCK

Some dipstick in the Toronto media posted this gem on social media:

"If the Leafs had this version of Mitch Marner in the Stanley Cup playoffs, we're probably talking about a potential dynasty right now."

Marner is, indeed, ripping up the post-season: 21 points in 15 games, and his Vegas Golden Knights are one win away from the final. Marner is a front-runner for playoff MVP.

But Marner was hardly a playoff disaster with Toronto, compiling 63 points in 70 post-season games.

The Maple Leafs let Marner down, not vice versa. He was their best player.

Marner departed for Vegas, Toronto plummeted to last place in the Atlantic Division.

It's a poisoned franchise. No Stanley Cups since 1967 when the NHL was a six-team league. No finals since then, either. Despite having arguably the NHL's most resources and Toronto having a reputation as hockey's world capital.

There's always a scapegoat.

For a while, it was Phil Kessel. Then he came to Pittsburgh and won rings in 2016 and '17.

Later, it was Kyle Dubas, GM from 2018-23. Then he left Toronto, the Leafs got worse and Dubas has done well rebuilding the Penguins.

Now the Leafs might hire Chris Pronger as president of hockey ops. Great player, but minimal experience as a hockey executive.

Whatever the Leafs do is wrong. It's that kind of a franchise.

They have the No. 1 pick in the draft. Whoever they select will be a bust.

Except for Steve Simmons, the Toronto hockey media is a bunch of fanboy stooges.

If Vegas wins the Cup, maybe Toronto has a parade for Marner like Boston did when Ray Bourque left the Bruins and pimped a Cup with Colorado.

59 years without, yet the Leafs are always victims.

Grammatically incorrect, too. It should be Maple Leaves.
