Blur - Girls & Boys
From their album Parklife, comes the dance-pop perfection of “Girls & Boys.” With a tongue twisty chorus in full distain of hook up culture, Blur succeeded in marrying electro, disco-pop with a punky snotty snarl.
Many moons ago, Blur frontman Damon Albarn and Elastica front woman Justine Frischman were a couple vacationing together in Spain. Damon observed the prevalent hookup culture and found it fascinating, amusing, and all a bit disposable. The video seems lazy in its bouncy green screen production, but it was exactly what the band had been looking for to illustrate the cheapness and frivolity of the song’s subject matter. Damon had never said he didn’t approve of what he observed by the way, just simply that he observed it everywhere he looked.
You can also go down quite an internet wormhole finding tons of remixes to the track so have fun. (But not TOO much fun, or Damon might write a song about you too).
