Here’s your 90’s Video of the Day: Blur - Song 2

Because we love ‘em all. Here’s your 90’s Video of the Day:

Blur - Song 2

There’s a reason that Blur’s “Song 2” doesn’t sound like anything else in their catalogue. Well, because on this April Fool’s Day, friend, it was a bit of a joke. Blur had a very Brit-Pop ethos, with danceable tongue in cheek tunes in a time of Nirvana, grunge, and overall more aggressive rock on the radio. Written essentially as a jab at their record company, “Song 2” was a parody of all things hard rock, and a hungover Blur wrote the song with Damon Albarn singing whatever came to mind.

Sophie Muller directed the iconic video in which has the band being blown away by the amplifiers behind them, forcing them to crash into the walls and the ground. The wind tunnel at the end looks like it would have been really fun and really difficult to try to perform through so I guess they’re lucky it’s a short song!
