Alanis Morissette - You Oughta Know

Alanis Morissette just released a song for Thursday's Mental Health Action Day, which is part of May's Mental Health Awareness Month activities. Morissette debuted "Rest," at the October 2017 Hollywood Bowl concert, celebrating the life of the late Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington. Bennington's suicide had been precipitated by his ongoing battle with mental health issues. Alanis tweeted that the song was "written specifically about those of us who struggle with depression and anxiety, isolation, suicidal ideation and the profound despair that mental illness can plunge us into." CHECK OUT THE SONG "REST" HERE. We're going to revisit her awesomeness today with a repeat 90's feature!

Former teen pop princess, Alanis Morisette, shed her “Too Hot” saccharine sweet past with a lyrically gripping breakup anthem with the release of Jagged Little Pill. It’s unreal to see her in this video, knowing that she was only twenty one years old and scorned beyond recognition.

The vocals for this song were recorded in one take and there’s a ton of star power on the track with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Flea playing bass and Dave Navarro on guitar. (Although sometimes you’ll hear a non-Flea version which is pretty weak sauce—-who does that to Flea??) Also keep your eyes peeled for Taylor Hawkins on drums, not long before he’d be drumming with Foo Fighters.

Okay so the real dirt you care about…Is this song about Dave Coulier, aka Uncle Joey from Full House? Alanis says she’ll never tell, but in 2008, Dave Coulier did an interview with the Calgary Herald and said its was. When they dated, Alanis would have been 17 or 18, Dave 32 or 33. However, he has since backtracked on that, after telling Buzzfeed in 2014 “The guy in that song is a real a-hole, so I don’t want to be that guy.”

This whole video was filmed in the Mojave Desert and directed by Nick Egan.
