Jane’s Addiction - Jane Says
Happy Birthday Dave Navarro! While his fame now goes far beyond Jane’s Addiction (Ink Master, Red Hot Chili Peppers, his reality show with then partner, Carmen Electra—-didn’t think I was gonna led that slide, did you?), Navarro gets the love today with an iconic Jane’s Addiction song and his RHCP buddy Flea guests in the video.
Technically “Jane Says,” was born in the late 80’s but it’s recognition is largely due to it being re-recorded for their album Nothing’s Shocking. The 90’s version is the one you more commonly hear on radio and has the steel drums, but there’s also the live version from Kettle Whistle. The video was a happy byproduct of a documentary that was being made by film maker Carter B. Smith who took about three days to edit together enough footage for a full music video.
In case you don’t know, Jane, mentioned not only in this song but the namesake of the band, is a real person. Perry Farrell and Eric Avery lived with her while renting a house. Sergio, her drug-dealer boyfriend is also real. We’re not 100% sure what happened to Jane but blogs and reddit wormholes indicate that she eventually did kick her addiction.
