Because we love ‘em all. Here’s your 90’s Video of the Day:
Orgy - Blue Monday (Cover)
I always loved the original and thought I wanted for nothing with New Order’s “Blue Monday.” But the Orgy version is such a damn banger even if the OG version comes on, my brain is sometimes fighting to heavy it up. Plus Orgy actually get to the jam a little faster and I need that sometimes. (The original comes in at about 7:25!)
New Order was experimenting with a new drum machine, ripped off a Donna Summer B-Side to program the pattern, and took the title from Fats Domino who already had a tune called “Blue Monday.” By the time Orgy got to it, it already had quite the legacy and it’s a gutsy move to cover such a successful song. Plus would lightning strike twice? For this song, it did. It's the song Orgy is best known for to this day, from their 1998 album Candyass.
Orgy already had the goth aesthetic but took it to outer space for the video. Man I hope that we get lots of guy-liner and frosted tips when we have to live on Mars someday.
