NO VASELINE

Pitt got humiliated Saturday, with no Vaseline.

The second half of the Panthers’ 51-6 loss to Penn State was a 30-minute reminder that Pitt football has made absolutely zero progress under Coach Pat Narduzzi.

Pitt is just 22-18 since Narduzzi took over. There have been amazing upset victories, like last year’s win over 10-0 Miami. But Pitt lost three games to non-bowl teams in 2017, and has lost its last two games against "rival" Penn State by a cumulative 84-20.

Narduzzi is all hat and no cattle. He speaks loudly and forcefully, like when he predicted Pitt would be in the ACC championship game.

But Narduzzi doesn’t deliver.

Witness these highlights from Saturday’s debacle.

*Pitt's captains made the wrong decision after winning the coin toss.

*Not kicking on fourth-and-3 from Penn State’s 4-yard-line with a chance to take a 9-7 lead late in the second quarter.

*Narduzzi took an unsportsmanlike conduct flag.

*Running the ball 52 times and passing it just 18. Wasn’t Kenny Pickett supposed to be the next Dan Marino?

*Pitt committed 14 penalties and three turnovers. That’s sloppy in any weather.

Penn State Coach James Franklin ran up the score. Given the chance, one blowhard is always going to humiliate another blowhard.

Narduzzi isn’t going anywhere. He’s signed through 2024. It’s like the Pirates’ situation with Clint Hurdle, only worse.

Pitt ditched Dave Wannstedt in 2010. None of his successors have had a better winning percentage. That is all the people need to know.
