TWO LEGENDS

But the No. 1 legend in this photo is DVE’s Sean McDowell, who retires today after 41 years as the voice of rock ‘n’ roll in Pittsburgh. Sean is the quintessential FM disc jockey. His delivery is mellow and flawless. He loves and personifies the music.

Except Queen. Sean hates Queen. That makes his final broadcast being the pre-show for tonight’s Queen + Adam Lambert concert at PPG Paints Arena a bit ironic.

I’ve shared an office with Sean in the iHeartMedia building since I got hired by the X in 2009. That’s too much talent and charisma for one room.

Sean is not only the consummate pro, but he’s an awesome guy and I’m very sad to see him retire. I have as much respect and admiration for Sean as I do anyone in my profession. In my book, Sean’s in Doug Hoerth territory.

I wish Sean well in retirement as he further explores the wonders of medicinal marijuana. (Dude gets stoned a lot.)

He left a locker full of candy behind. That’s one good thing.

I’m hoping Sean takes advantage of his free time to reunite his high school band, Hotflash, with Sean on drums (see below). Perhaps they could open for Queen someday.
