Diego Maradona may be the greatest soccer player ever, but is remembered as much for controversy as for sublime skill and grandiose accomplishment.
Maradona is known for winning the World Cup with Argentina in 1986…and for cheating en route via the infamous “Hand of God” goal in the quarterfinals against England. In typical contradictory fashion, Maradona dribbled past five England players in the same game to score what was later voted the “Goal of the Century” in a FIFA poll conducted prior to the 2002 World Cup.
HBO does great documentaries. Maradona is a prime subject.
“Diego Maradona” premieres Oct. 1. Witness the trailer, the “Hand of God” goal, and the “Goal of the Century.”
