POLANCO = MLB’S BEST PLAYER

OF Gregory Polanco was once heralded as the future of Pirates baseball.

That future is finally being realized. This past weekend’s series vs. Milwaukee was a best-case scenario.

Polanco is the best player in MLB. It’s hard to conclude otherwise.

Polanco hit .500 over the weekend. He was five-for-10. He had five RBI, three runs scored, two home runs, a double and two stolen bases. His two-out, two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth accounted for the tying and winning runs in yesterday’s 5-4 win over the Brewers at PNC Park. The Pirates swept three games from Milwaukee.

Polanco struck out four times in those three games. He’s whiffed 26 times in 53 at-bats, which is 49.1 percent of the time and simply awful. But I’m trying hard to be upbeat.

Polanco also got picked off second base by the catcher yesterday, which apparently happens a lot more often that I thought.

No matter. The Pirates are now 7-17, just three games out of fourth place in the NL Central and only four games out of a wild-card spot. BEAT ‘EM, BUCS!

As for Polanco, his batting average is up to .151. That’s some scalding hot El Coffee! 151 proof! It’s got some kick!
