Not great photo quality, but then-ESPN 1250 intern Terry Long took this with the camera phone of the day. It’s me interviewing Sidney Crosby on his first day in Pittsburgh in 2005.
It’s at the Steelhead Grill – which might have been called something different then – in the Marriott Hotel across the street from PPG Paints Arena. But PPG Paints Arena hadn’t been built yet. Mellon Arena (also across the street) was the Penguins’ home.
This pic is awesome. It’s great to have a record of that. Thanks, Terry.
Thanks also to my lifelong friend Dee Rizzo for making it happen. Dee has worked with Sid’s agency for many years. Dee’s relationship with Crosby predates Sid being drafted by the Penguins. Dee picked Sid up at the airport and brought him to the interview.
Do I look thinner now? I think so. Sid, of course, has barely aged.
