T.J. Watt is practicing. We don’t know if Watt got his contract extension. We just know that he’s practicing and will apparently play Sunday at Buffalo.
That’s all that matters.
If Watt’s passive holdout caused him to miss games, then he’d cross a line.
But, by practicing and playing, Watt is fulfilling the terms of his current contract’s final year. That’s all that can be demanded.
It would have been better had Watt been a full participant throughout training camp.
But, by practicing this week and playing at Buffalo, Watt can’t be considered the bad guy. He’s holding up his end of the bargain.
Prediction: Watt’s contract extension is announced between now and Sunday’s game, with the Steelers totally capitulating and Watt getting almost exactly what he wants. (Cue Minkah Fitzpatrick licking his chops.)
