BERUBE BLEW IT FOR BLUES

The Penguins scored third-period goals just 12 seconds apart last night to turn a 3-2 deficit into a 4-3 lead and, ultimately, a 5-3 win over visiting St. Louis.

Sidney Crosby and Evan Rodrigues scored those goals. They were the heroes.

St. Louis Coach Craig Berube was the goat. Berube blew the game.

When Crosby scored, he made minimal contact with Blues goalie Jordan Binnington and was clearly outside the crease. But the hot-headed Binnington performed the death scene from “Camille,” so Berube felt obliged to use a coach’s challenge he had no chance of winning.

The goal stood, which cost St. Louis a delay-of-game penalty. Rodrigues scored on the power play. The Penguins won.

Good rally by the Penguins. Bad decision by Berube. Gratuitous overreacting and whining by Binnington.
