Josh McDaniels got fired as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders. The Steelers should hire McDaniels immediately.
Make McDaniels an offensive consultant for now. Make him the offensive coordinator next season, replacing Matt Canada.
McDaniels has failed twice as a head coach, first with Denver and now with Las Vegas.
But he’s succeeded as an offensive coordinator, winning three Super Bowls while doing that job with New England. McDaniels has served two stints as the Patriots’ coordinator: 2006-08 and 2012-21. (McDaniels won three more rings while performing other duties with the Patriots.)
Sure, McDaniels had Tom Brady. So, let’s find out how good Kenny Pickett really is.
But when the Steelers fire Canada at season’s end, they’ll probably just promote quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan to offensive coordinator. That seems like a much better idea.
