TOMLIN VS. McCARTHY

Here's an excerpt from a recent TribLive.com column:

Mike Tomlin’s career record is 183-106-2. That’s a .632 winning percentage. He’s 8-10 in the playoffs. He’s been to two Super Bowls, winning one.

Mike McCarthy’s career record is 174-111-2. Winning percentage of .610. He’s 11-11 in the playoffs. He won his only Super Bowl, beating Tomlin.

Tomlin and McCarthy have similar records.

Yet Tomlin has absolute job security and media-wide praise. McCarthy is always under fire.

I’ll hang up and listen.

I really would like to get an answer. Why, exactly, is Tomlin sanctified but McCarthy vilified?

Watch any of ESPN's gab-and-grimace shows: "You can't bring McCarthy back to Dallas next season," but "Steelers fans need to realize how lucky they have it with Mike Tomlin."

Yet their records run very close to parallel.

Can somebody spell it out for me? Preferably somebody on ESPN. I'd love to hear that steaming pile of horse manure. It would rival the stench from Tomlin's weekly press gathering.

McCarthy is having a worse year at 7-9. Tomlin is 10-6.

But McCarthy had three consecutive 12-win seasons prior and won a playoff game in 2023. Tomlin hasn't registered a post-season victory in seven years.

Please explain to me why Tomlin > McCarthy.

But you might not be telling me anything I don't already know.
