PRESS RELEASE:

Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby was one of three players selected to Hockey Canada’s initial 2022 Olympic Roster, it was announced by Team Canada’s general manager, Doug Armstrong.

Joining Crosby is Edmonton’s Connor McDavid and Vegas’ Alex Pietrangelo.

Crosby, 34, will represent his home country at the Olympics for the third time in his career after winning gold medals in both 2010 and 2014. He served as an alternate captain in his Olympic debut in 2010, scoring the game-winning overtime goal in the gold medal game against Team USA, which stands as one of the most iconic goals in Team Canada history. In 2014, he captained the Canadian squad to a second-consecutive gold medal, going undefeated in the tournament.

The 5-foot-11, 200-pound native of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia is one of the most productive Canadian-born players in NHL history. Among active Canadians, Crosby ranks first in goals (486), second in assists (839) and points (1,325), and third in game-winning goals (69). He is also one of just four active Canadian-born players to average over a point per game (1.28) along with Connor McDavid (1.41), Steven Stamkos (1.03) and Mitch Marner (1.01).

The three-time Stanley Cup Champion has also represented Canada on several other occasions in addition to his Olympics appearances, including the World Junior Championship (2004, ’05), World Championship (2006, ’15) and World Cup of Hockey (2016). Below is a list of his international medals:

Gold Medals:
2016 World Cup of Hockey
2015 World Championship
2014 Olympics
2010 Olympics
2005 World Junior Championship

Silver Medal:
2004 World Junior Championship

Following his gold medal at the 2015 World Championship, Crosby became just the 26th player to join the Triple Gold Club. Members of the Triple Gold Club have won the Stanley Cup and gold medals at both the Olympics and World Championship.
